Job summary

McKenzie Health System in Sandusky, MI is seeking a Nutritional Services Specialist to coordinate, prepare and cook meals for patients, staff and visitors under the supervision of the Director of Nutrition/Food Services. This role requires working weekends and holidays on a rotational basis, and may involve varying day and afternoon shifts.

A high school diploma and preferably ServSafe certification are required or preferred; strong English communication and teamwork are essential to maintain

STATUS: Full Time – 32 hours per week

HOURS : Variable day and afternoon shifts may be required to provide department staffing. Requires working weekends and holidays on a rotational basis. Low Census may be required to support workload demand.

ROLE/POSITION DEFINITION:

Coordinates, prepares and cooks for patients, staff and visitors under the supervision of the Director of Nutrition/Food Services. Is responsible for high standards of quality and quantity food preparation and sanitation. Provides for safe and sanitary food of high nutritional quality coupled with outstanding customer service to promote physical and emotional vitality for all of our customers: patients, visitors and staff. Assists with preparation of salads, desserts, cleaning, dish room activities, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS/POSITION REQUIREMENTS/PERSONAL SKILLS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• High School graduate or equivalent
• Previous food service experience in a health care setting preferred
• Certification in “ServSafe” preferred.
• Ability to communicate fully in the English language
• Training in food management, diet therapy preferred
• Ability to establish effective working relationships and effective communication with peers, patients, families, physicians and other support personnel
• Supports and contributes to the total hospital system by maintaining hospital-wide perspective and serving on department/hospital committees as requested
• Ability to follow a series of instructions accurately
• Ability to operate or learn to operate various kitchen equipment and cash register
• Simple math concepts to include counting and measuring/weighing portions.
• Maintains a positive perspective/attitude
• Subject to variances in temperature (refrigeration units, heat from stoves and ovens)
• Exposure to dishwasher chemicals and nutrition/food service appliance cleaners.
• Some exposure to clinically infectious disease during indirect contacts in patient units.
