Independent School District 196 is seeking a Nutrition Services Manager - Elementary to oversee daily kitchen operations for 8 hours a day during the school term. The role includes staff scheduling, food preparation, inventory management, and ensuring compliance with USDA guidelines.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, ServSafe and Minnesota Food Manager certificates, and at least one year in school food service.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma required; associate degree or certification in food and nutrition preferred.
  • Certifications: ServSafe Certification and Minnesota Food Manager Certificate (both obtainable within one year of employment).
  • Training: Complete Level 2 of the Specialized Training Requirements for the SNA Certification Program within two years of employment or have post secondary education in a related field.
  • Physical Ability: Lift up to 40 pounds, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in institutional food service (school food service preferred).
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and work effectively within a team.
  • Systems: Experience with food service inventory, ordering, receiving, and POS systems (preferred).
  • Office: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
  • Diversity: Experience with diverse school community preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily kitchen operations, including staff scheduling and food preparation.
  • Ensure standardized recipes are followed and minimize waste.
  • Order and receive food and supplies using the management system; maintain inventory levels.
  • Uphold safety and sanitation standards per regulations.
  • Track production, temperature logs, sales, and data.
  • Collaborate with Building Chief and Nutrition Coordinator on equipment and needs.
  • Train and mentor kitchen staff on preparation, safety, and equipment.
  • Oversee meal and a la carte sales, cash handling and deposits.
  • Promote healthy eating and engage with students, staff and families.
  • Support district nutrition committees and professional development.

Qualifications:

Job Summary:

  • Lead with Purpose: Coordinate daily kitchen operations, including staff scheduling, food preparation, and service, adhering to USDA School Breakfast and Lunch program guidelines.
  • Create Delicious & Nutritious Meals: Ensure standardized recipes are followed, and creatively utilize food leftovers to minimize waste.
  • Manage Inventory & Ordering: Accurately order and receive food and supplies using our computerized food service management system, maintaining optimal inventory levels.
  • Prioritize Safety & Sanitation: Uphold strict federal, state, and local safety and sanitation standards in all food handling and preparation.
  • Maintain Accurate Records: Utilize our computerized system to track daily food production, temperature logs, sales reports, and other essential data.
  • Collaborate & Problem-Solve: Work closely with the Building Chief and Food and Nutrition Coordinator to ensure equipment functionality and address any operational needs.
  • Develop & Train Staff: Train and mentor kitchen staff on food preparation, safety protocols, and equipment usage.
  • Manage Sales & Finances: Oversee school meal and a la carte sales, cash handling, and deposits using our computerized system.
  • Foster Positive Relationships: Model respect and promote effective communication with students, staff, parents, and the broader school community.
  • Champion Nutrition Education: Promote healthy eating habits within the school and community.
  • Ensure Smooth Operations: Manage staff time keeping and absences, call in substitutes, and manage catering events.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in District 196 Nutrition Services committees, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Impact Student Well-being: Directly contribute to the positive development and health of students by ensuring access to nutritious and appealing meals.
