The Nutrition Host is the primary liaison between the Food & Nutrition Services Department and the patient. The Host plays a key role in providing patient food preferences within the parameters of the therapeutic diet.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent College nutrition class
Testing Must pass the Physical Capacity Exam (PCE). This exam includes a 50-pound lifting requirement.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential
- Obtains menu selections from patients in a timely manner.
- Makes appropriate decisions at patient bedside regarding food requests and preferences based on the patient's diet order. Refers to clinical dietitian as necessary.
- Records Likes & Dislikes appropriately in Computrition.
- Verifies tray tickets for accuracy with HUC before meal trays are delivered.
- Verifies patient identification before leaving meal tray using two forms of patient identification.
- Delivers meal trays, opens packages, and sets up bedside tables as necessary.
- Sanitizes hands before assisting with tray set-up and again before leaving the patient's room.
- Communicates messages and recent diet orders while on the floors via the telephone to the diet office.
- May be assigned to deliver carts to units.
- Provides room services, assembles the tray according to current diet order and delivers to the patient.
- Stock units according to par levels.
- Keeps patient information protected and confidential.
- Returns meal carts to the kitchen, paying attention to any leakage from carts onto the floor/carpet. Cleans up any spills as soon as possible and notifies Environmental Services for deep cleaning.

- DIET CLERK: Keeps Computrition current and organized with changes, transfers and discharges. Utilizes Smart Sub at appropriate times. Prints tray tickets and places them in correct trayline order. Records daily meal count for trayline. Performs Checker position on trayline. Updates Diet Office Communication Log frequently. Accesses Soarian to obtain patient diet information of patient location. Keeps supply of necessary forms available. Prints Daily Patron Roster Report. Assures that Diet Office phone is covered before leaving the office. Properly operates the computer, fax machine, copy machine and phone/voice mail. Keeps patient information protected and confidential.

- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area.

Pay Range $20.78 -$31.17
