Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System is seeking an entry-level Nutrition Services Assistant to support patient meals on the Largo, MD unit. You will help with menu distribution, tray delivery, and ensuring diet guidelines are followed with proper safety and sanitation.

Preferred candidates have 1–3 years in food service within a large-scale institutional setting and may have completed a Sanitation and Food Handlers course.

Qualifications

• Entry level position on a hospital dietary team.
• Completion of sanitation/food handling is preferred.
• Experience in large-scale institutional dietary settings is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Distribute, assist, collect and correct patient menu selections.
• Deliver patient trays to floors using Meal Delivery Carts.
• Assemble meal trays according to patient selections and diet guidelines.
• Pass and collect meal trays with two patient identifiers, including isolation patients.
• Fill patient requests and retrieve missing items for timely delivery.
• Assist in passing water to patients.
• Record intake for patients on I&O and caloric counts.
• Maintain the unit kitchens and clean kitchen areas and refrigerators.
• Record refrigerator temperatures and adjust thermostats.
• Rotate and replenish bulk nourishments and update diet lists.

Job description

Principal Duties

Functions as the primary point of contact for nutrition services on the patient unit. Utilizes problem-solving and communications skills as well as knowledge of diet therapies to perform duties in an accurate and timely manner.

• Distributing, assisting, collecting and correcting of patient menu selections.
• Deliver patient trays to floors per unit using Meal Delivery Carts.
• Assemble Meal Trays according to Patient Selections and Diet Guidelines.
• Passing of meal trays and nourishments using two Patient identifiers and collecting of meal trays from all patients, including isolation patients
• Fill patient requests and retrieve missing/needed items for delivery to patients in timely manner.
• Assist in passing water to patients.
• Record intake for patients on I &O’s and/or caloric counts.
• Maintain the unit kitchens.
• Clean kitchen and refrigerators
• Record refrigerator temperatures each day and adjust thermostats as necessary.
• Rotating and replenishing bulk nourishments.
• Maintain updated diet lists, and status on all patients.
