Job summary

Corewell Health in Michigan is seeking a Nutrition Services Worker to manage patient and retail meal service. You will set up and stock workstations, prepare and assemble meals, and ensure compliance with modified diets while delivering patient trays.

The role requires safe food handling, strong communication, cash handling in retail areas, and the ability to work in a busy hospital environment. Training on safety standards will be provided.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Set up and stock the workstation for patient or retail meal service.
  • Prepare and assemble menu items as assigned.
  • Ensure high quality food by monitoring ingredients and finished products to meet established quality standards for patients and retail customers.
  • Assemble patient trays accurately with appropriate portioning and presentation, ensuring compliance with modified and restricted diets.
  • Serve retail customers with proper portioning and presentation.
  • Perform cash functions in retail areas according to required procedures.
  • Transport food carts within the department, patient care areas, or other assigned locations, and assemble and deliver floor stock.
  • Pass trays to patients using two identifiers and following established scripting and sanitation procedures.
  • Retrieve soiled patient trays and return them to the kitchen.
  • Perform dishroom responsibilities: break down trays, wash, sanitize, and store dishes, utensils, pots, and pans; operate the dish machine.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities for waste reduction, service improvements, and revenue enhancement.
  • Maintain, clean, and sanitize equipment and work area according to established safety and sanitation standards.
  • Collect and dispose of trash in the work area.
  • Apply safe food handling principles during storage, assembly, production, and service.
  • Record food and equipment temperatures as required; properly label, date, and dispose of expired product.
  • Communicate effectively within the department and with all hospital departments, patients, and staff.
  • Complete any additional duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Nutrition Services Supervisor, this role is responsible for all aspects of patient and retail meal service. The position requires setting up and stocking workstations; preparing, assembling, and serving patient and retail meals while adhering to modified and restricted diet requirements. The staff member will deliver patient trays and supplies, retrieve trays for the kitchen, and maintain cleaning and sanitation of the work area, equipment, and dishes. Knowledge of safe food handling practices and effective communication is essential.
