Job summary

The Pima County Health Department, Women Infants and Children (WIC) program, seeks a motivated Nutrition Education Specialist I to provide client-centered nutrition and breastfeeding services, conduct WIC certifications, and obtain anthropometric and hemoglobin measurements for participants.

You will document in the WIC system, develop care plans, and refer clients to additional services while assisting in nutrition classes and outreach activities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED (required for certification in capillary finger punctures) and completion of a college level basic nutrition course or one year of experience in health, nutrition, health education or social services.
• Associates degree or some college education; bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred; six months nutrition education counseling experience in maternal/child or clinical setting recommended.
• Experience with computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite, and data entry.

Responsibilities

• Collects information from clients related to health history, nutrition status, household income and residency and enters into computer-based software to determine eligibility for government nutrition programs for certification periods ranging from one month to one year.
• Obtains client information using standard scales, such as height and weight, enters information into an automated system to determine health risks and nutrition education plan.
• Performs capillary finger punctures for hemoglobin screening and inputs results to determine client health risks and program benefits.
• Instructs clients on policies and procedures, determines food benefit packages and schedules appointments.
• Maintains security and inventory of food benefit supplies and documents services in client files.
