A leading public health organization seeks a Nutrition Education Coordinator to enhance community health through the Stellar Farmers Markets program. The role involves coordinating logistics, developing educational materials, and supervising staff to promote healthy eating in underserved neighborhoods. Ideal candidates will have experience in nutrition education and community partnerships.
The Center for Health Equity and Community Wellness (CHECW) aims to eliminate racial and other inequities that lead to premature mortality. CHECW works to increase visibility of harm caused by racist and unjust policies, advocating for redress in NYC communities. The division partners with community, faith-based, and healthcare organizations to address social determinants of health, including environmental and commercial factors, focusing on upstream and downstream health improvements.
The Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention (BCDP) within CHECW focuses on reducing chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer among New Yorkers. It emphasizes nutrition, tobacco use, the built environment, and the impact of commercial determinants like Big Tobacco, Big Salt, and Big Sugar. BCDP collaborates with government, healthcare, and community entities to implement evidence-based policies and programs promoting health equity, especially in neighborhoods disproportionately affected by chronic diseases.
The role involves coordinating the Stellar Farmers Markets (SFM) program, funded partly by SNAP-Ed, providing bilingual nutrition workshops and cooking demonstrations to promote healthy eating and increase fruit and vegetable consumption.
Residency in NYC or nearby counties may be required within 90 days of appointment. The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. Reasonable accommodations are available upon request.
