Job summary

The University of Rochester is seeking a part-time Patient Service Assistant in Food & Nutrition Svcs-Patients at 601 Elmwood Ave, Rochester, NY 14642. You will assemble and deliver patient trays for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, ensuring temperature retention and accurate dietary accommodations.

A high school diploma and the ability to read, write and speak English are required, with experience in a service environment.

Responsibilities

• Assembles and delivers patient trays for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner meals in a timely manner to ensure temperature retention.
• Passes nourishments, fills water pitchers and communicates patient preferences for nourishment adjustments.
• Passes patient specific menus and assists with menu selection at bedside or by telephone.
• Collects and submits completed patient menu selections and communicates preferences to Diet Technician.
• Collects soiled meal trays and moves carts to elevator area.
• Records patient intake and consumption data for all monitored patients.
• Maintains floor stock by daily inventory and filling Blue Orders; stocks supplies on units.
• Provides late trays and substitutes; adjusts trays per diet orders and admissions.
• Performs cleaning duties in galley, microwaves, surfaces, and equipment.
• Ensures proper food temperature via thermometer checks when microwaving trays.
• Assembles trays on trayline; assists with limited food prep and service on units.

The referenced pay range represents the first and last step pay rates for this job, as set forth in the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Individual pay will be set in accordance with terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities

• SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED:Patient Service Assistant Manager, Assistant Director of Food and Nutrition, Food and Nutrition Services
• MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:Microwave, oven, Refrigerator, Freezer, Coffee maker, Food and Meal carts, Telephone, Pager.
• TYPICAL DUTIES:1. Assembles and delivers patient trays for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner meals in a timely manner to ensure temperature retention. Use judgment in approaching patients and families and in satisfying their requests for adjustments within their prescribed diet. In this capacity, serves as an effective representative of the hospital to patients, families and visitors.
• 2. Passes all nourishments as well as fills water pitchers. Pass all tube feedings and infant formulas.
• 3. Passes all patient specific menus. Assists with patient menu selection on the telephone or at bedside.
• 4. Collects and submits all completed patient menu selections. Communicates patient preferences and requests for nourishment's to the Diet Technician as necessary.
• 5. Collects all soiled meal trays from Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner meals. Also, moves soiled carts to elevator area.
• 6. Records all patients in¿s and Out's. This includes amount of food eaten and liquid consumed by all patients being monitored.
• 7. Maintains appropriate levels of floor stock by completing a daily inventory and filling the "Blue Orders" as necessary. Stocks the blue orders supplies on assigned units.
• 8. Responsible for supplying all necessary late trays and substitute selections for patients. Consults with the Dietetic Technician or Nutrition Services Supervisor and use judgment in adjusting trays for changes in patients' diet orders and/or new admission.
• 9. Performs all assigned cleaning duties such as unit microwave, freezer, refrigerator, galley work surfaces.
• 10. When microwaving trays, checks to see food is brought to proper temperature by using a thermometer to test.
• 11. Assembles trays on the trayline for meal service to patients. Assists with limited food preparation, portioning and serving both in the tray assembly area and on the units, when appropriate.
