Job summary

MedVet is seeking a Nursing Veterinary Assistant to support the nursing team in our fast-paced emergency and specialty practice. You will supervise patients, assist with procedures, and help with client education.

This role requires prior veterinary experience and accuracy in drug calculations, IV catheter placement, phlebotomy, and compassionate communication with clients and teammates. We offer comprehensive benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Prior veterinary experience required, previous nursing or critical care experience desired.
• Strong ability to perform calculations for medications and infusions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication with clients and teammates.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information as necessary.
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education including home care instructions, medications and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.

We are looking for: Nursing Veterinary Assistant

Never a dull moment in the Nursing department! Our patients need constant supervision to ensure treatment plans are being executed. This department is perfect for someone who can identify patient distress and react accordingly, enjoys phlebotomy, placing IV catheters, assisting with recovery and client follow up and education.

What you’ll do:

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary


• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns


• Provide client education including, but not limited to: home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients


• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures


• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients


• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Who you are:

• Prior veterinary experience required, previous nursing or critical care experience desired


• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)


• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary


• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
