Job summary

MedVet Medical & Cancer Centers for Pets in Worthington, OH seeks a dedicated Critical Care Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced emergency and specialty team. You will assist with phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, client education, and patient monitoring under a DVM supervision.

Qualifications

• Prior veterinary experience required
• Experience in Critical Care, Nursing or Emergency preferred
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, CRIs, unit conversions)

Responsibilities

• Record rounds, discuss cases and gather information as needed
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment
• Partner with patient care team on treatment plans and nursing care concerns
• Provide client education on home care, medications and general wellness
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside testing

We are looking for: Critical Care Veterinary Assistant

Never a dull moment in Critical Care! Our patients need constant supervision to ensure treatment plans are being executed. You should enjoy phlebotomy, placing IV catheters, assisting with recovery and client follow up and education.

What you’ll do:

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary

• Evaluating incoming patients and prioritizing based on assessment

• Provide client education including, but not limited to: home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients

• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Who you are:

• Prior veterinary experience required, previous Critical Care, Nursing or Emergency experience desired

• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)

• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
