Job summary

MedVet Medical & Cancer Centers for Pets in the United States seeks a Nursing & ICU Veterinary Assistant to support our high‑acuity patients in the Emergency and Specialty department. The role emphasizes patient monitoring, phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, recovery assistance, and client education.

You will work with the DVM, deliver rounds, discuss treatment plans, perform in-house lab work, and ensure clean, compassionate care.

Qualifications

  • Prior veterinary experience required, previous nursing or critical care experience desired.
  • Proficient calculations (drugs, CRIs, unit conversions).
  • Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary.
  • Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns.
  • Provide client education including home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients.
  • Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
  • Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
  • Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.

Nursing & ICU Veterinary Assistant

Never a dull moment in the Nursing department! Our patients need constant supervision to ensure treatment plans are being executed. This department is perfect forsomeone who can identifypatientdistress and react accordingly, enjoysphlebotomy, placing IV catheters, assisting with recovery and client follow up and education.

What you’ll do:
