Job summary

MedVet is seeking an Urgent Care Veterinary Assistant to join its fast-paced clinical team. You will be involved in initial patient assessments, assist with procedures, monitor anesthesia, and provide client education on medications and home care for hospitalized patients.

Prior veterinary experience is required; emergency exposure is preferred. The role offers comprehensive health benefits and opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

• Prior veterinary experience required; emergency experience desirable.
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, dosages, conversions).
• Flexibility with work hours and ability to take on additional shifts as needed.
• Ability to stay efficient in a fast-paced environment; multitasking skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds; discuss cases and gather information.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Collaborate with patient care team on treatment plans and nursing care.
• Provide client education on home care, meds, and hospital updates.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
• Monitor hospitalized patients and provide nursing care.
• Induce and monitor anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house and prepare samples for external testing.

We are looking for:

Urgent Care Veterinary Assistant

Are you someone who likes to be constantly moving from one thing to another? Our Urgent Care team is the perfect place for assistants who thrive in a fast-paced environment, can shift gears quickly and handle the stress of critical situations with ease. Urgent Care offers patients a skillful evaluation of those unexpected, non-critical needs when their primary veterinarian is unavailable, and offers immediate care for non-life-threatening conditions.

What you’ll do:

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary


• Evaluating incoming patients and prioritizing based on assessment


• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns


• Provide client education including, but not limited to: home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients


• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures


• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients


• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures


• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Who you are:

• Prior veterinary experience required, previous emergency experience desired


• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)


• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary


• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
