Responsibilities

• Maintains accountability of patients and awareness of patients’ whereabouts during assigned 12-hour shift.
• Assists in managing aggressive behavior using therapeutic intervention techniques and safety measures.
• Observes and documents patients’ special precautions per hospital policy.
• Interacts with patients therapeutically and reports conditions to professional staff.
• Conducts and facilitates groups in therapy activities and supervises daily activities.
• Communicates pertinent information to supervisors or other authorized personnel.
• Participates in shift change reports and patient staffing conferences.
• Performs routine nursing duties such as taking vital signs, weighing patients, collecting samples, or drug screens.
• Documents observations and vital signs in patient charts and reports incidents as needed.
• Assists with paraprofessional nursing duties in patient care.

Nursing Unit Aides / Nursing Assistants play a vital role for the Louisiana Department of Health in the Behavioral Health community by utilizing CLSH’s values and mission to deliver quality and effective care to our patients. Central Louisiana State Hospital located in Pineville, Louisiana, is seeking applicants for a vacant position in our Nursing Department as a Nursing Unit Aide / Nursing Assistant 1-2(Day Shift) who assists to create and maintain a therapeutic environment for mentally ill and/or substance abuse patients which includes performing routine nursing duties such as taking vital signs, weighing patients, and tending to patient needs.

No experience or training required.

NOTE:

Positions at facilities receiving certain Medicaid or Medicare funds require that applicants possess a current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate.

Job Duties

• Maintains accountability of patients and awareness of patients’ whereabouts at all times, reporting and documenting appropriately during assigned 12-hour shift.
• Assists in management of aggressive behavior, utilizing therapeutic intervention techniques. Utilizes safety interventions to apply physical restraints.
• According to hospital policy, observes, provides care, reports, and documents patients’ special precautions.
• Interacts with patients as a therapeutic function. Observes and reports condition of patients to professional staff.
• Conducts and facilitates groups in therapeutic activities such as unit meetings and work or activity therapies. Supervises patients engaged in planned daily activities.
• In accordance with policy, communicates pertinent information regarding patients, employees, visitors, unit personnel, etc. to supervisors or other authorized persons.
• Participates in shift change report and attends patient staffing conferences and treatment team meetings.
• Performs routine nursing duties such as taking vital signs, weighing patients, collecting and labeling urine and lab specimens or drug screens.
• Documents on patients’ charts concerning behavioral observations, vital signs, symptoms, accidents, injuries, etc.
• Assists or performs all other paraprofessional nursing duties for the provision of patient care.

Position-Specific Details

Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, Job Appointment, Demotion, Transfer, or WAE

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Nursing Unit Aide, Nursing Assistant 1, or Nursing Assistant 2.

Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate of :

- $972.00 bi-weekly for a Nursing Unit Aide

- $1,099.20 bi-weekly for a Nursing Assistant 1

- $1,176.00 bi-weekly for a Nursing Assistant 2.

Position is eligible for premium pay of $1.50 per hour and Longevity pay starting at $1.00 per hour. Also eligible for $1.00 per hour for current CNA certification.

Schedule: Rotating 12-hour day shift
