Job summary

Tufts Medical Center offers a Clinical Care Technician – Nursing Student Program (Per Diem) designed for nursing students to gain hands-on clinical experience while continuing their education.

Participants work with experienced nurses in inpatient settings, with opportunities for shadowing, mentorship, and development. The program supports academic schedules and may lead to Nurse Residency interviews based on eligibility and availability.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
• Certifications relevant to the department and type of care being provided may be required.
• Current CNA or MA preferred.
• Completion of Nursing Fundamentals in an accredited Nursing program.
• One year of related experience as a Nursing Assistant, PCA, CCT, or PCT.
• Acute care experience.

Responsibilities

• Assists the professional registered nurse in the functional care of patients, ensuring efficient and patient centered care appropriate to the developmental age of the patient population.
• Performs delegated tasks and communicates all findings/concerns to the professional nurse.
• Assists with activities of daily living in a safe, efficient and respectful manner.
• Greets patients, families, visitors and other staff according to service standards.
• Collects, records, and communicates the patient’s clinical data to the assigned nurse in a timely manner.
• Prepares room for admission/transfer/discharge, assuring standardized equipment is ready for use.
• Transports patients as necessary to other areas of the hospital in an efficient, safe, and respectful manner.
• Provides comfort measures such as positioning and changing linen to patients.
• Promotes patient activity by assisting with mobility and ROM exercises.
• Sets up for procedures as requested by nursing/medical staff.
• Cleans and discards used equipment and supplies following procedures.
• Collects specimens and performs specimen testing; prepares specimens for the lab.
• Cares for biomedical equipment and reports malfunctions to Medical Engineering.
• Performs 12 lead EKG and connects monitoring equipment under nurse direction.
• Answers call lights and performs hourly rounding per guidelines.
