Job summary

Intermountain Health in Grand Junction, CO is recruiting a nursing student who has completed at least one medical/surgical rotation and is pursuing licensure. The role operates under RN supervision and leads toward a new graduate nurse resident position as available after licensure.

The position emphasizes patient care, education, and collaboration with the care team, with a strong focus on safety, infection prevention, and throughput in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Student in good standing in an accredited School of Nursing program, having completed a minimum of one medical/surgical rotation.
• BLS-HCP Certification required upon hire or within 60 days of hire with prior approval.

Responsibilities

• Responds to patient care needs by answering call lights, assisting with hygiene and nourishment, obtaining vital signs, and communicating with the care team.
• Assists with Foley catheter and nasogastric tube insertions, care, and removal.
• Checks and documents patient vitals, glucose levels, inputs and outputs with RN signature.
• Performs secondary assessments as additions to the primary assessment by a RN.
• Educates patients and families about disease processes, medications, and care plan interventions.
• Assists nurses and physicians within scope and competency.
• Adheres to infection prevention standards and supports patient experience goals.
• Assists with patient transfers, admissions, and discharges per safety guidelines.
