Job summary

Fairview Health Services seeks a Nursing Station Technician for the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis. The role blends Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator duties to support pediatric patients and families on the CVICU, with a focus on patient care and administrative tasks on a fast-paced unit.

Responsibilities include hygiene, vitals, transport, room setup, and ordering/tests coordination, plus front-desk support such as phones and admissions.

Qualifications

  • BLS certification required; OnTrack participants must obtain BLS upon completion.
  • Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training or another Fairview nursing assistant program.
  • Six months of direct care experience in a long-term, home care or acute care setting.
  • Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program with one clinical rotation completed.
  • Current Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry certification upon hire (not required to be maintained if transferring).

Are you looking to make an impact on the physical, emotional and cultural needs of pediatric patients and their families? Join our team as a Nursing Station Technician at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital!

Located on the west bank of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, we deliver a broad range of pediatric programs from surgery, imaging and neonatal and pediatric intensive care to cardiac and oncology (cancer care) services and blood and marrow and organ transplantation.

This position will be working 56 hours every two weeks on the evening shift, 8 hours shifts and every other weekend.

The Nursing Station Technician in the Pediatric CVICU is a hybrid position consisting of both Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties.

In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, collaboration and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fasted paced unit. Other job duties include:

  • Patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding
  • Maintaining unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests
  • Setting up and maintaining patient rooms
  • Ordering and stocking of supplies
Required

License/Certification/Registration

  • Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants are required to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program
AND ONE or more of the following:

Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.

OR

Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)

OR

Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program

OR

Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position
