Fairview Health Services is seeking a Nursing Station Technician (NST) who serves as both a Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator in the ICU at Fairview Ridges Hospital, Burnsville, MN. The role supports nursing staff, transports patients, and manages unit clerical duties on a 0.75 FTE night shift with every third weekend rotation.

Responsibilities include direct patient care tasks, room setup, equipment transport, and coordinating admissions and orders.

Qualifications

• NA training or on-track NA program completion
• Direct patient care experience in long-term, home, or acute care settings preferred
• Enrollment in LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program acceptable with clinical rotation
• Current Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry certification on hire (not mandatory for internal transfers)
• BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required (OnTrack participants may obtain after program)

Responsibilities

• Assist professionals in delivering patient care, including hygiene, vitals, mobility, feeding and daily tasks.
• Transport patients and equipment and stock supplies in patient rooms.
• Maintain unit desk and transcription tasks, answer phones, and process admissions/discharges.
• Coordinate communications on the patient care unit and support nursing staff.

Job description

Job Overview

Fairview is looking for a Nursing Station Technician (NST) Nursing Assistant/Health Unit Coordinator HUC for the Intensive Care Unit at Fairview Ridges Hospital (Burnsville, MN) to work under direction of nursing personnel to provide patient care while functioning as a nursing assistant and as a health unit coordinator.

This position is a 0.75 FTE, working 60 hours per 2 week pay period. This position works 12-hour shifts, every third weekend rotation (Fri,Sat,Sun), on the night 7pm-7:30am shift.

The Nursing Station Technician is responsible for assisting the professional caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and / or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, reordering, and stocking supplies. Performs a wide range of clerical, transcription, and maintenance of patient care unit desk area functions. Coordinates the flow of communication on a patient care unit. The NST does not work autonomously but under the direction of the professional nurse. They may or may not be given a patient care assignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager /charge nurse.

The Nursing Station Technician is a hybrid position consisting of both Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties.

In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fast paced unit.

Other job duties include:

• Patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding
• Maintaining unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests
• Setting up and maintaining patient rooms
• Ordering and stocking of supplies

Performs other tasks as needed.

License/Certification/Registration

• Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program

OR

• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician

OR

• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program

OR

• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position

• Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
