Fairview is seeking a Nursing Station Technician for the Long-Term Acute Care Unit at Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul, MN.

This .6 FTE role features 8-hour night shifts with an every-other-weekend rotation on a dynamic inpatient unit serving patients with complex conditions. You will assist with patient care, vitals, bathing, feeding, transport, and environmental care while coordinating unit communications and maintaining records.

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support certification required.
• Completion of Fairview OnTrack Nursing Assistant program or similar.
• Six months of direct care experience in LTACH/long-term or acute care.
• Enrollment in an LPN/RN/Nurse Practitioner program with clinical rotation.
• Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry certification at hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care under nursing supervision, including vitals and daily activities.
• Assist with bathing, feeding, and transporting patients.
• Maintain environment and equipment; stock supplies.
• Coordinate communication on the unit with the health care team.
• May serve as patient care attendant.

Education

Job Overview

Fairview is looking for a Nursing Station Technician on the Long-Term Acute Care Unit at our Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul, MN.

Schedule:

This role is a .6 FTE (48 hours every 2 weeks) working 8-hour night shifts, with every other weekend rotation. Variable weekday schedule.

About this Unit:

Are you someone who enjoys building strong connections with their patients? This is an inpatient unit where all our patients have had a complicated illness or injury that requires hospital level care for an average of 25-30 days. Many of our patients are more acute than a typical Med/Surg floor. The LTACH is an excellent place to build expertise in handling patients with progressive care issues at varying levels of multi system impairment. The Bethesda LTACH is located in the former St. Joseph’s facility which is now the Fairview Health & Wellness Hub.

Responsibilities:

Work under direction of nursing personnel to provide patient care while functioning as a nursing assistant and as a health unit coordinator. Duties may include: patient cares, vitals, bathing, feeding, answering call lights, transporting, care of environment (by stocking, cleaning, and maintaining rooms) and use of equipment, phones, clerical, transcription, and coordinate the flow of communication on the unit. May work as a patient care attendant.

• Performs delegated nursing functions to assigned patients including personal care, ambulation, exercise, nutrition, specimen collection and vital signs
• Performs special procedures (eg: skin care) as defined by patient care unit practice guidelines
• Observes patients and reports any changes in status to appropriate staff
• Communicates effectively with all members of the health care team
• Performs environmental and other responsibilities as assigned
• Maintains the medical records
• Schedules patient tests and procedures
• Maintains unit communication systems and central desk area
• Receives all patients, family members, visitors and other members of the health team
• Maintains unit stock/supplies/equipment
• Participates in staff development

Required Qualifications:

• Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross) Ontrack participants must be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
• AND ONE or more of the following:
• Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
• Or
• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)
• Or
• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program
• Or
• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position
