Job summary

MedVet in San Jose, CA is seeking a collaborative Nursing/ICU Veterinary Technician for overnight shifts. You will engage in critical nursing tasks, assist with anesthesia, phlebotomy, and patient monitoring, and collaborate with veterinarians to ensure high-quality care across a fast-paced clinical setting.

Ideal candidates hold an RVT license (preferred) with prior veterinary nursing or critical care experience, strong math skills for drug calculations, and excellent communication with clients

Qualifications

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred.
• Prior veterinary experience required, nursing or critical care experience desired.
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, CRI, unit conversions).
• Flexible with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information as necessary.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education including home care instructions, medications and wellness updates.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.

We are looking for:

Nursing/ICU Veterinary Technician - Overnights

Proposed Schedule:

Mon-Thurs 8p-6a

Compensation

The hiring range for this position is $28.25 - $44.00/hour based on skillset and experience. We support our evening caregivers with lucrative shift differentials:

• Hours worked between 8pm-11:59pm = base pay +$4/hour


• Hours worked between 12am-8am = base pay +$6/hour


• Hours worked on Saturday and Sunday (day or night) = base pay + $3/hour + any applicable differentials.

Never a dull moment in the Nursing department! Our patients need constant supervision to ensure treatment plans are being executed. This department is perfect for someone who can identify patient distress and react accordingly, enjoys phlebotomy, placing IV catheters, assisting with recovery and client follow up and education.

What you’ll do:

• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Who you are:

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred
