Job summary

MedVet Medical & Cancer Centers for Pets is seeking an Overnight Nursing/ICU Veterinary Technician to provide critical care and nursing support in our emergency and specialty hospital.

You will monitor hospitalized patients, assist with anesthesia, perform phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, and client education while collaborating with DVM and care teams to execute treatment plans.

Qualifications

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred.
• Prior veterinary nursing or critical care experience required.
• Flexibility with work hours and ability to work extra hours when needed.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Partner with patient care team on treatment plans and nursing care concerns.
• Educate clients on home care, medications, and wellness updates for hospitalized patients.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside lab testing.

We are looking for:

Nursing/ICU Veterinary Technician - Overnights

Proposed Schedule:

Week 1: Wed, Thur, Sat 7p-730a Week 2: Sunday, Thur, Fri 7p-730a

Never a dull moment in the Nursing department! Our patients need constant supervision to ensure treatment plans are being executed. This department is perfect for someone who can identify patient distress and react accordingly, enjoys phlebotomy, placing IV catheters, assisting with recovery and client follow up and education.

Whatyou'lldo:

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary
• Evaluating incoming patients and prioritizing based on assessment

• Provide client education including, but not limited to: home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Who you are:

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred
• Prior veterinary experience required, previous nursing or critical care experience desired
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
