Job summary

Penn State Health - Hershey Medical Center is seeking a Nursing Professional Development Specialist for the Pediatric Oncology unit. You will lead orientation, assess competence, and promote lifelong learning for nursing staff, with responsibilities across education, mentorship, and regulatory compliance.

You will facilitate educational interventions, identify outcomes, and collaborate with learners and stakeholders to support personal and professional goals.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Nursing or BSN plus related master's degree.
  • Active RN license in the state of employment or multi-state license via compact.
  • BLS certification prior to end of orientation period.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a registered nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Supports orientation programs and ongoing evaluation of competence for Nursing staff.
  • Promotes professional development opportunities and mentorship within the Nursing department.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Nursing Professional Development Specialist supports the quality of care provided to patients by Department of Nursing staff through optimal orientation programs, ongoing evaluation of competence, and support of lifelong learning. The Nursing Professional Development Specialist promotes relevant professional development opportunities and mentorship for members of the department of nursing at all levels to assist with the achievement of personal and professional goals. The Nursing Professional Development Specialist will identify outcomes of educational interventions based on input from learners and stakeholders, evidence, regulations and organizational goals.The position is in support of the education of Pediatric Oncology Unit nursing staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and Master’s degree in related field
  • Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate RN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • AHA BLS prior to end of orientation period
  • At least five (5) years' experience as registered nurse
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
  • Previous teaching experience AHA Instructor Certification Clinical Certification Certification in Nursing Professional Development
  • NPD-BC preferred

Chemotherapy experience and Pediatric experience preferred
