Job summary

Hospital for Special Care is seeking a Director of Nursing Operations to lead across the organization, reporting to the CNO. You will optimize staffing, drive quality and safety, and align resources to support strategic priorities.

The role requires an RN license in CT, a Master’s in Nursing (or a BSN with a related master’s), and at least five years of leadership experience. Strong communication and data-driven decision-making are essential to sustain excellence in patient care.

Qualifications

  • Current, unrestricted RN license in Connecticut.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing or BSN with a master’s in management/healthcare administration.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive nursing leadership/management experience.
  • Strongly preferred: Director-level nursing leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, conflict-management, and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and executive communication skills.
  • Knowledge of nursing operations, staffing/scheduling, quality, safety, regulatory requirements, and fiscal stewardship.
  • Ability to interpret and use workforce, quality, operational, and financial data to guide decisions.
  • Preferred: proficiency with workforce-management, scheduling, productivity, and healthcare information systems.

Responsibilities

  • Translate strategic plan into operational priorities, goals, and results.
  • Provide visible leadership across shifts and locations.
  • Optimize staffing, scheduling, workforce deployment, and resources.
  • Advancing quality, safety, regulatory readiness, and performance improvement.
  • Develop nurse leaders to achieve organizational priorities.
  • Directly manage nursing operational leaders and staffing office.
  • Ensure equitable, transparent staffing and scheduling practices.
  • Lead quality and safety initiatives and regulatory compliance.
  • Partner with HR for recruitment, onboarding, retention, and succession.
