Job summary

Law Brothers Injury Attorneys in California seeks a Nursing Home Litigation Attorney (Elder Abuse & Neglect) to lead a fast-growing practice. This is a first-chair track with the potential to handle a docket from day one or ramp quickly with senior litigators.

You will handle cases involving pressure ulcers, falls, malnutrition, dehydration, medication errors, and wrongful death in skilled nursing and assisted living facilities.

Qualifications

• Licensed in California and in good standing
• Experience in plaintiff-side civil litigation, elder abuse, or nursing home cases preferred
• Strong writing, deposition and courtroom skills
• Ability to manage a substantial caseload in a remote environment

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all phases of nursing home abuse and neglect litigation, from investigation to trial
• Draft and argue dispositive and discovery motions and seek remedies under applicable statutes
• Analyze medical records, care plans, and relevant data to build liability and damages theories
• Retain and collaborate with medical and forensic experts
• Maintain empathetic communication with clients and families throughout the case
• Evaluate case value, develop settlement strategy, and negotiate with defense counsel and insurers
• Mentor junior staff as the department grows

The Opportunity

Our Elder Abuse & Nursing Home Neglect practice is one of the firm's fastest-growing departments, and we are adding a litigation attorney to lead it forward. You will handle cases involving pressure ulcers, falls, malnutrition and dehydration, medication errors, and wrongful death in skilled nursing and assisted living facilities—from intake through trial.

This is a first-chair track. Depending on experience, you will either run your own docket of elder abuse cases from day one or ramp quickly alongside our senior litigators, with a clear path to first-chairing depositions, arbitrations, and trials.

What You Will Do

• Lead and manage all phases of nursing home abuse and neglect litigation: case investigation, pleadings, written discovery, depositions, expert workup, mediation, arbitration, and trial preparation
• Draft and argue dispositive and discovery motions, including opposing motions to compel arbitration and litigating Elder Abuse Act enhanced remedies (Welf. & Inst. Code § 15657) and punitive damages claims
• Analyze medical records, care plans, staffing data, and CDPH survey/citation history to build liability and damages theories
• Retain and work with nursing, geriatric medicine, wound care, life-care planning, and forensic experts
• Maintain regular, empathetic communication with clients and families—many of whom are grieving—and keep them informed at every stage
• Evaluate case value, develop settlement strategy, and negotiate with defense counsel and insurers
• Mentor associates, law clerks, and case managers on the elder abuse team as the department grows

Who We Are Looking For

• Licensed and in good standing with the California State Bar
• Plaintiff-side civil litigation experience required; nursing home, elder abuse, or medical malpractice experience strongly preferred. We will consider candidates from 2+ years through seasoned first-chair elder abuse trial attorneys, and compensation will reflect experience
• Working knowledge of the California Elder Abuse and Dependent Adult Civil Protection Act
• Strong legal writing, deposition, and courtroom skills; comfortable arguing motions and taking expert depositions
• Organized and self-directed, with the ability to manage a substantial caseload and meet deadlines in a remote environment
• $150,000 – $250,000 base salary, commensurate with experience, plus performance-based bonus
