Job summary

Johns Hopkins Medicine is seeking a Nursing Professional Development Specialist to support education, orientation, and competency validation in ambulatory clinics. The NPDS will align education with Epic/EHR workflows and clinical best practices.

The ideal candidate is an experienced RN and educator with ambulatory/academic healthcare background, strong communication and teaching skills, and willingness to travel among Johns Hopkins locations in the Baltimore/Washington area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing is required.
• Current MD or compact, multi-state RN license required.
• Minimum two years of nursing experience required.
• Five years of nursing experience highly preferred.
• Experience as Nursing Professional Development Specialist or Clinical Education Nurse is a plus.
• RN experience in ambulatory setting preferred.
• Academic ambulatory experience highly preferred.
• Must be able to travel to several Johns Hopkins locations in the Baltimore/Washington metro area.

Responsibilities

• Support education and professional development activities across the Johns Hopkins Medicine Ambulatory setting.
• Promote evidence-based practice and integrate best practices into clinical workflows.
• Support new staff orientation, onboarding, and competency validation.
• Plan, implement, and evaluate educational programs using adult learning principles.
• Develop and deliver education for providers, nurses, medical assistants, and other clinical staff.
• Educate staff on Epic (EHR) workflows and Epic best-practice utilization.
• Identify educational needs with clinical leaders to close knowledge gaps.
• Evaluate educational program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
• Support culture of professional development and patient safety.
• Serve as an educational resource for ambulatory teams across School of Medicine.
