Job summary

VCU School of Nursing invites applications for the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs and Department Chair. This senior leader provides strategic oversight of all pre-licensure and undergraduate programs in Family and Child Health Nursing, ensuring academic excellence and alignment with national standards.

The role mentors faculty, manages clinical partnerships, and collaborates with school leadership to advance education, research, practice, and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Doctorate in nursing or related discipline (at least one graduate degree must be in nursing)
• Currently licensed or eligible for licensure to practice nursing in Virginia
• Demonstrated teaching experience in nursing programs
• Demonstrated leadership and mentorship experience in academic programs
• Tenured or tenure-eligible

Responsibilities

• Fosters a positive work environment with strong communication and collaboration
• Establishes program and department goals aligned with the school and university
• Guides program directors to ensure academic integrity and teaching excellence
• Collaborates with ADAA on internal and external reports
• Assists with recruitment and retention of qualified faculty and staff
• Leads organization-wide orientation for new faculty and staff
• Develops annual faculty work plans and teaching assignments
• Evaluates staff and faculty with input from leadership and PDs
• Mentors department faculty and supports faculty development
• Addresses faculty, staff, and student matters per policies
• Manages program and department resources for operational excellence
• Represents the department to university and community stakeholders
• Maintains teaching, research, and service responsibilities per Dean's agreement
