Job summary

VCU School of Nursing seeks an Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs and Department Chair to provide strategic, operational, and visionary leadership for all pre-licensure and undergraduate programs within the Department of Family and Child Health Nursing.

The role oversees faculty orientation, development, workload planning, and student success initiatives while managing clinical partnerships and collaborating with School leadership to advance academic and community engagement priorities.

Qualifications

• Full-time senior faculty rank (Associate Professor or Professor).
• Licensed or eligible for Virginia nursing licensure with at least two years of direct clinical care.
• Doctorate in nursing or related discipline (one degree in nursing).
• Demonstrated teaching experience in nursing programs.
• Demonstrated leadership and mentorship in academic programs.
• Ability to foster respectful, professional environment across diverse groups.

Responsibilities

• Foster a positive work environment with collaboration across the department and organization.
• Establish goals and initiatives supporting the school and university mission.
• Guide program directors to ensure academic integrity and teaching excellence.
• Coordinate with ADAA on internal and external administrative reports.
• Assist recruitment and retention of qualified faculty and staff.
• Lead orientation for new faculty and staff and develop annual work plans.
• Evaluate faculty and staff performance with input from ADRSI, ADPCE, and PDs.
• Mentor department faculty and support opportunities for development.
• Address faculty, staff, and student matters in line with policies.
• Manage department resources for operational excellence.
• Represent the department in university and community interactions.
