Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a nursing education leader to provide education, orientation, and competency programs at the unit level. The role acts as educator, consultant, and change agent to support clinical excellence and frontline development.

Under limited supervision, you will lead orientation for new hires, develop competency programs, and mentor staff while aligning with accreditation and regulatory requirements to ensure high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• BSN from an accredited program is required.
• Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Maryland or eligible for licensure.
• Minimum of two years of Emergency Department-related experience.
• Graduate degree preferred.
• Certification in Nursing Professional Development or a related specialty preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates unit orientation for new hires and aligns content with unit policies.
• Collaborates with department managers to assign preceptors.
• Supports competency programs ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory needs.
• Conducts learning needs assessments and develops education programs.
• Maintains transition programs for staff moving between specialties or roles.
• Supports evidence-based practice improvements to enhance care quality and efficiency.
• Monitors compliance with hospital standards and addresses practice gaps.
• Mentors clinical nursing staff with unit leadership to improve outcomes.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
