Job description

Overview

Director for Nursing Outcomes, Practice & Systems – responsible for fiscal, operational and administrative leadership within their leadership scope. Works with the CNO and other nurse leaders to ensure resources are available to meet department and strategic goals. Develops inpatient nurse clinicians and aligns their work with departmental and organizational goals. Serves as the nursing liaison for Pharmacy, Laboratory and Pathology Services.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee Clinical Value Analysis for products and technology in inpatient nursing and ancillary areas where purchases directly impact nursing.
  • Trend, analyze and report quality & safety data to advance patient outcomes and nurse practice.
  • Develop a departmental program of nursing scholarly work and research; promote evidence-based approaches to improve practice and outcomes.
  • Implement and support quality, patient safety and regulatory initiatives across nursing disciplines.
  • Serve as liaison between Nursing and the Jeffords Institute for Quality; collaborate to support quality, safety, measurement and regulatory strategies affecting nursing practice.
  • Ensure policies and procedures used in nursing are up-to-date and evidence-based.
  • Partner with patients and families and the Nursing Professional Governance structure to promote safe, high-quality nursing practice and patient outcomes.
  • Provide leadership for initiatives in nursing informatics, electronic health record development and other information services/technology strategies, in collaboration with directors in Information Services.
  • Lead as the Magnet Excellence program director at UVMMC in collaboration with the CNO and Magnet Steering Committee; oversee programs monitoring nurse work environment, engagement and nurse-sensitive outcomes.
  • Lead for organizational culture, coaching, staff development and high-performance expectations aligned with UVMMC Leadership Core Competencies.
  • Develop staff in leadership roles and participate in setting and implementing organizational and Department of Nursing goals and strategies to deliver high-quality care across the system.
Qualifications
  • Education: Demonstrated commitment to life-long learning. Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the State of Vermont is required. Certification in related nursing specialty preferred.
  • Experience: Five years of nursing leadership experience. Experience in integrated health systems in an academic medical center preferred. Director-level experience in a healthcare nursing setting preferred.
