Job summary

South Texas Health System is seeking a Department Nurse Director to oversee nursing and clinical staff within the department, ensuring high-quality patient care and regulatory readiness. The role involves staff scheduling, payroll, orientation, policy adherence, and budget management, while addressing concerns from patients, families, and other departments.

The position mainly operates on weekdays but may require after-hours support as needed.

Qualifications

• 4 yearsRN experience required.
• 3-5 years management experience required.
• Texas RN license or compact state license; temporary Texas license ok.
• BSN (or related field) with master’s preferred; required BSN within set time if not
• Must have and maintain current certifications according to unit needs (AHA etc.).
• Familiar with basic nursing standards as per TX Nurse Practice Act.
• Membership in related professional organization preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee nursing and clinical staff within the department.
• Interact with hospital staff, patients, families and other departments to address care concerns and resolve conflicts.
• Maintain performance skills, regulatory readiness, staff schedules, payroll, orientation and staff meetings.
• Ensure budget compliance and monitor budget variance.
• Coordinate with leadership to ensure accreditation readiness and ongoing performance improvement.
• Occasionally support staff outside regular weekday hours as needed.
