The Nursing Director of Cardiology must demonstrate leadership, management and Performance improvement concepts. He or she must have the ability to develop and implement strategies to improve delivery of care to patients. Must possess knowledge of current theoretical approaches to the delivery of nursing care. Must have knowledge of Federal, State and professional regulations and standards that apply to clinical division or she must be committed to own professional growth.

  • Nursing Director Responsibilities

  • Participates with leaders from Administration, medical staff and clinical areas in development of strategic plans and policies affecting patient care services.

  • Participates in suggesting programs/enhancements to hospital information systems that support patient care and the utilization of nursing resources.

  • Ensures that department functions according to established regulatory authorities.

  • Functions as liaison between Administration and staff.

  • Develops and evaluates goals and objectives for self and departments. Monitors progress of goals submitted by Nurse Managers.

  • Attends Department Head and Nursing Administration meetings.

  • Collaborates with other department heads in problem identification and problem solving for the best interest of patient treatment and to expedite patient care.

  • Assists Chief Nursing Officer in the development of the budget in collaboration with other nursing and hospital personnel.

  • Determines staffing requirements and staff mix to effectively deliver care to patients. Monitors for compliance.

  • Provides and maintains necessary equipment and supplies to carry out activities of safe patient care.

  • Involves Nurse Managers more fully in the budgetary process.

  • Monitors approved budget and resource allocation by monthly monitoring of expenditures and utilization of resources.

  • Participates in the hospital admission system to coordinate patient requirements for nursing care with available nursing resources.

  • Collaborates with and directs clinical and non-clinical personnel for the timely provision of services for the best care to patients.

  • Develops and implements standards of care and practice required for patients in a specific service. Updates standards as necessary and ensures current staff practices and competencies.

  • Plans, promotes and conducts department performance improvement activities and collaborates with the hospital's PI plan for the year.

  • Assists registered nurses in evaluating current nursing practice and patient care deliver models to improve quality and efficiency of care.

  • Participates in developing and implementing mechanisms for collaboration between nursing staff members, physicians and other clinical practitioners specific to clinical division.

  • Collaborates with Nursing Education to include clinical and/or managerial learning experiences. Develops role of the Nurse Manager in leadership skills.

  • Assists with the planning and placement of students for clinical experiences.

  • Provides education opportunities for staff.

  • Acts as a role model, teacher and resource person.

  • Participates in community activities related to healthcare education and/or patient/family advocacy.


Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) required.

  • Master's Degree in Nursing or related field required.

  • Current NYS RN License required.

  • Certification in leadership preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years' recent clinical experience related to the department, where at least 3 of those years were in progressive responsible management positions within an acute care facility.

  • Demonstrated leadership, management and Performance Improvement concepts required.


Salary Range


USD $180,000.00 - USD $210,000.00 /Yr.


This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
