Job summary

Qualifications

• RN licensure in applicable state
• Bachelor's degree required
• 5 years of related nursing experience preferred
• Clinical experience within the assigned population
• Extensive knowledge of disease processes and clinical outcomes
• Case management experience helpful

Responsibilities

• Reviews inpatient medical records to identify principal/secondary diagnoses and assigns the MS-DRG reflecting illness severity.
• Demonstrates knowledge of AP-DRG and MS-DRG systems.
• Uses licensed software to perform daily medical record reviews.
• Interacts with physicians and healthcare team to clarify vague/incomplete documentation.
• Collaborates with coding, compliance, quality, and finance to support corporate goals.
• Participates in ongoing education of physicians and healthcare staff to identify documentation improvement opportunities.
• Uses critical thinking to determine need for further clarification of physician documentation.
• Requests additional documentation to support corporate compliance policies.
