Job summary

The Float Pool Nursing Assistant at the Veterans Health Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, provides personal nursing care on inpatient medical units including Acute Medicine, 3 West, Telemetry, ICU, ED, and psychiatric care.

Scheduling is variable days and nights including weekends/holidays; telework is not available. Relocation incentives not authorized. This position is with VA and requires completion of orientation and annual competency requirements.

Qualifications

• Education recognized by the U.S. Department of Education when using foreign credentials.
• Certificate of Foreign Equivalency required for foreign education review.

Responsibilities

• Uses glucose monitoring machine to collect and document readings.
• Maintains respectful relationships with patients and families using communication skills.
• Begins to use observation skills for data collection, reporting and recording.
• Assists with personal hygiene, comfort, nutrition, elimination and rehab tasks under supervision.
• Engages patients in activities and group therapies on unit.
• Reports patient observations to the RN and other team members.
• Sets up patient care equipment and organizes supplies.
• Protects patient privacy and follows safety practices.
• Works as a cooperative member of the interdisciplinary team.
• Completes orientation and mandatory trainings; participates in competency assessments.
