This job is responsible for providing general support to an assigned work unit relating to a clean environment for patient care, patient mobility, and maintenance of equipment. It offers practical work experience and clinical training for transition to other healthcare roles (e.g., CNA). The incumbent is exposed to functions and activities specific to the healthcare industry, with job duties structured to fit the needs of the department. Assigned activities may include furnishing information to authorized persons, providing clerical support/data entry, and similar tasks.

Work is performed under direct supervision according to established guidelines. If assisting with patient care or transport, work is under the direction of a licensed healthcare provider. The role requires strict confidentiality, adherence to safety, risk management, and standard precautions.

Current enrollment in an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant training course is required prior to hire. This position is temporary, while the employee is in school.

Essential Job Functions

• Transport patients to and from nursing units and departments, ensuring safety and comfort.
• Assist, under supervision of a licensed healthcare provider, with lifting, turning, and transporting patients.
• Perform housekeeping duties: restocking supplies, linens, emptying trash, stripping rooms prior to EVS activities.
• Assist with cleaning and maintenance of department equipment.
• Perform clerical tasks: packaging patient education materials, assembling FIT tests, data entry, and supporting projects.
• Support inpatient floors: sit bedside for visitation, transport urgent specimens, serve as unit access screener, conduct hygiene audits.
• Deliver food trays to patient rooms.
• Act as a resource for patients/visitors, address concerns, and escalate issues as needed.
• Perform related duties within the scope of an unlicensed individual.

Qualifications

Minimum Job Qualifications

Experience and education demonstrating relevant knowledge and interest in healthcare. Enrollment in an accredited CNA training program is required prior to hire.
