Job summary

The Veterans Health Administration's Boston VA Healthcare System in Brockton, MA is seeking a Nursing Assistant for the Long Term Spinal Cord Injury Unit. This full-time evening position supports licensed staff and care teams, performing ADL assistance, vital signs, transfers, and safety rounds under supervision.

Responsibilities include documentation, specimen handling, occasionally EKGs, and ensuring a safe environment.

Qualifications

• Education must be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for federal employment.

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed nursing staff and care team in patient care under supervision.
• Take, record, and report vital signs accurately.
• Assist with total ADL care and treatments (bowel/bladder management, feeding, repositioning).
• Assist with hoyer lift transfers and wheelchair usage.
• Provide safe environments, hourly rounds, and notify supervisors as needed.
• Initiate emergency actions in life-threatening situations and alert licensed personnel.
• Perform EKGs and document ADL care provided.
• Obtain specimens, properly label and prepare for transport for testing.
• Clean and disinfect rooms and medical equipment after patient use.
