Job summary

Boston VA Healthcare System on the Brockton, MA campus is seeking a Nursing Assistant for the Long-Term Spinal Cord Injury Unit. The role is full-time, evenings, 40 hours per week, and involves providing direct patient care under supervision of registered nurses and licensed practical nurses.

Position requires basic experience and education related to nursing, strong patient-care skills, and effective communication with patients and the health team.

Qualifications

• Six months of general experience.
• One year of education above high school with courses related to nursing care.
• Completion of an intensive occupation-related training course of study or program of less than one year as a NA may meet the experience requirements.
• English language proficiency: must be proficient in spoken and written English.
• Demonstrated KSAs: ability to provide a range of patient care and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Take, record, and report vital signs accurately.
• Provide total ADL care and basic treatments under RN supervision.
• Assist with hoyer lift transfers and wheelchair use.
• Maintain safe environments and conduct hourly rounds.
• Respond to emergencies and notify licensed staff immediately.
• Perform EKGs and document ADL care provided.
