Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Hospital is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to support patient care and comfort under licensed nurses. You will assist with activities of daily living, monitor vitals, and contribute to accurate charting using EMR systems.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates competency in technology for patient charting and related functions.
• Provides physical patient care in a safe manner under the direction of the Licensed Nurse.
• Assists with activities of daily living (showering, bathing, dressing, feeding).
• Communicates abnormal variances of data (vital signs, pain) to staff.
• Collects information on patient condition: vital signs, intake/output, food intake.
• Uses basic decision-making to complete routine tasks.
• Participates in huddles, rounding, bedside reporting and Service Excellence.
• Collaborates with unit staff for coordinated patient care.
• Utilizes unit equipment competently.
• Performs unit-specific procedures and participates in Unit PI plans.
• Makes suggestions for improved operations and responds to cultural variables in interactions.

Job description

• The Certified Nursing Assistant performs various patient care activities and related non-professional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. They also assist the professional and technical nursing staff by performing any delegated duties, specialized procedures, and assists with care of seriously ill patient.

SUPERVISION:

Reports directly to Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Demonstrates competency in use of technology and computers for patient charting and related functions.
• Provides physical patient care in a safe manner under the direction of the Licensed Nurse.
• Performs or assists patient with activities of daily living (showering, bathing, dressing, feeding, activity).
• Communicates abnormal variances of data (vital signs, pain, etc) to appropriate staff.
• Collects information regarding patient/patient condition: vital signs, intake and output, food intake.
• Consistently utilizes basic decision making skills to complete routine tasks.
• Participates in best practices in a consistent and positive manner; huddles, hourly rounding, bedside reporting, Service Excellence, and the use of the white boards.
• Collaborates with unit staff to provide coordinated patient care.
• Utilizes unit specific equipment competently.
• Competently performs unit specific procedures.
• Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in implementation of Unit PI plan.
• Makes suggestions/recommendations for improved operations.
• Understands and appropriately responds to the unique combination of cultural variables that professionals and patients/individuals bring to interactions.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

• High school graduate/GED preferred Prior experience as a Nursing Assistant in a hospital setting may be used as a substitute to the education requirement.
• Graduate of an approved Nursing Assistant Training Program preferred.
• CPR certified preferred.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to communicate professionally with patient, family, peers and medical personnel; ability to exercise independent judgment.
• Requires emotional stability and maturity; must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight; exhibits organizational and leadership ability.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

• Work requires a variety of physical activities including standing and walking for long periods of time, bending, stooping, and lifting.
• The work environment may be physically confining.
• Visual acuity is required for a variety of specific activities.
• Must have normal hearing or utilize adaptive hearing devices if duties require listening with a stethoscope to discern breath sounds, heart sounds, and bowel sounds.
• Ability to do shift work as required.
