Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Nursing Assistant (NA) to provide direct patient care within the nursing unit and related clinics in Richmond, VA.

The NA demonstrates consistent practice across units to support patient/resident needs and coordinate with the nursing care team. Responsibilities include assisting licensed nursing staff, maintaining patient safety, observing and reporting changes, and using basic diagnostic equipment as directed.

Qualifications

• Must meet basic requirements for Nursing Assistant per VA policy.
• Six months of general experience or one year of education above high school related to NA.
• Completion of an intensive - specialized - occupation-related training course may meet the experience requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in the nursing unit and related clinics.
• Assist licensed nursing staff in a full range of nursing care.
• Observe patient status and report deviations to supervisor promptly.
• Use equipment and supplies for basic diagnostic and treatment procedures as directed.
• Communicate with patients, families and health professionals.
