Job Summary
Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, assumes responsibility for the collection of data related to patient status, performance of basic nursing procedures, ongoing collection and documentation of patient data, assistance with treatments and procedures, and assistance with maintenance of patient care equipment.
Essential Functions

- Assists patients with activities of daily living and hygiene, turns and repositions patients alone or with assistance, may transport patients and assist with walking, assists adult/pediatric patients with toileting needs in relation to their age including emptying established colostomy bags and urinary catheter removal, assists with fall prevention interventions and patient restraints as delegated, and removes and reappplies anti-emboli hose or compression devices.
- Assists with admission of patients to the unit by preparing the room, greeting, and orienting patient and/or family to the unit (bed, call light, phone, TV).
- Takes and records vital signs and repeats questionable values.
- Prepares patients for meals and assists in feeding and providing snacks and supplements.
- Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens and delivers specimens to the appropriate department as requested.
- Completes documentation in EMR accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintains cleanliness and order of the hospital room, utility room, diet kitchen, hallways, and alcoves, disposes of excess linen, and keeps linen emptied.
- Performs point of care testing as trained and delegated by RN and reports lab values to RN.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Education – Completion of a nursing assistant program preferred.
- Experience – No previous experience required.
