Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Collect data related to patient status and assist with basic nursing procedures.

• Assist with admission, room setup, and orientation of patient and family.
• Take and record vital signs; monitor for questionable values.
• Prepare patients for meals and assist with feeding and supplements.
• Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens and deliver to the appropriate department.
• Complete documentation in the EMR accurately and timely.
• Maintain cleanliness and order of patient areas and equipment.
• Perform point‑of‑care testing as trained and report lab values.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, assumes responsibility for the collection of data related to patient status. Performance of basic nursing procedures. Ongoing collection and documentation of patient data. Assistance with treatments and procedures. Assistance with maintenance of patient care equipment.

Essential Functions

• Assists patients with activities of daily living and hygiene. Turns and repositions patients alone or with assistance. May transport patients and assist with walking. Assisting adult/pediatric patients with toileting needs in relation to their age, including emptying established colostomy bags and urinary catheter removal. Assists with fall prevention interventions and patient restraints as delegated. Removing and reapplying anti‑emboli hose or compression devices.
• Assists with admission of patients to the unit by preparing room, greeting, and orienting patient and/or family to the unit (bed, call light, phone, TV).
• Takes and records vital signs and repeats questionable values.
• Prepares patients for meals and assists in feeding and providing snacks and supplements.
• Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens. Delivers specimens to the appropriate department as requested.
• Completes documentation in EMR accurately and timely.
• Maintains cleanliness and order of hospital room, utility room, diet kitchen, hallways, and alcoves. Disposes of excess linen and keeps linen emptied.
• Performs point‑of‑care testing as trained and delegated by RN. Reports lab values to RN.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non‑management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

• Education – Completion of a nursing assistant program preferred.
• Experience – No previous experience required.
