Job summary

UNC Health Johnston Health Smithfield seeks a Nursing Assistant I to provide routine patient care under supervision on the 3rd Floor Medical/Surgical unit. This full-time role includes 36 hours per week with night shifts, on-site duties, and rotating holidays, in a 33-bed unit.

You will work with a charge nurse and NA teammate, assist with examinations, vital signs, hygiene, mobility, and patient education while maintaining a clean workspace and documenting changes.

Qualifications

• Listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Prefer six months of nursing assistant experience

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians and health care providers with routine examinations and procedures; procure equipment during emergencies.
• Aids patients in reality orientation and supports therapy; provide de-escalation of potentially aggressive patients.
• Observe, collect, and document patient information; report significant changes to RN/physician.
• Assist patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provide care including vital signs, measurements, and basic wound care per plan of care.
• Provide direct personal care for activities of daily living; assist with ambulation.
• Perform indirect care: clean work areas, restock supplies, transport as needed, support new staff and students.
• Reinforce and distribute patient education materials and instructions

Skills
