Job summary

Essentia Health in Virginia offers a casual nursing assistant position at Essentia Virginia Hospital. The role provides direct patient care under supervision, including hygiene, nutrition support, comfort care, and accurate vital sign monitoring.

Responsibilities include safe patient transfers, timely reporting of changes to the RN, and maintaining a clean healing environment. State nurse aide registration and BLS certification (or ability to obtain) are required.

Qualifications

• Six months of patient care experience required.
• One semester of clinical rotations in an accredited nursing program required.
• Completion of a recognized nurse aide training program required.
• Current registration on state nursing assistant registry required.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and assist with personal hygiene and nutritional needs.
• Provide comfort care and other assistance as needed.
• Safely transfer patients and take vital signs with accurate recordkeeping.
• Recognize and promptly report changes in patient condition to the RN.
• Maintain a safe, clean environment to promote healing and comfort.
• Comply with Joint Commission and regulatory/ac accrediting standards.

Education

Job Description:

Responsible for providing direct care to patients and serving the needs of patients in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager, Assistant Head Nurse, and/or Department Director to contribute to meeting the mission and goals of Essentia Health. Duties will vary by patient care unit/department and include but are not limited to: Providing personal hygiene care, assisting with nutritional needs, providing comfort care and other assistance, appropriately and safely transferring patients, taking vital signs and completing recordkeeping, recognizing and promptly reporting changes in patient condition to the RN, and maintaining a safe, clean environment for patients to promote the healing process. Works within job scope to meet the requirements of the Joint Commission and other applicable federal, state and local regulatory and accrediting agencies.

Education Qualifications:

Must meet ONE of the following requirements:

• 6 months of patient care experience

• Completion of one semester of clinical rotations within an accredited nursing program

• Verifiable completion of a recognized nurse aide training program

• Current registration on applicable state nursing assistant registry

This position is casual.

Licensure/Certification Qualifications:

• BLS certified or ability to become certified within 1 month from hire date
