Job description

Responsibilities:

  1. Perform a wide range of clerical duties and direct patient care activities, depending on unit needs. Ensure tasks are completed efficiently and timely to support quality care. Meet qualifications to care for patients in the assigned clinical area's age range.
  2. Provide patient care within the nursing assistant scope of practice, following the multidisciplinary care plan.
  3. Identify, observe, and document patient needs and condition changes; report to licensed personnel promptly.
  4. Handle specimens according to policy and physician orders, maintaining integrity.
  5. Assist patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene and linen changes, ensuring ongoing care.
  6. Provide one-to-one patient safety watch as assigned, following policies.
  7. Process and transport specimens to the laboratory accurately and timely.
  8. Perform point-of-care testing, instrument maintenance, and quality control.
  9. Assist in troubleshooting equipment and supplies.
  10. Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students.
  11. Handle clerical tasks related to admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths; facilitate patient throughput.
  12. Manage test orders and communication with relevant departments.
  13. Coordinate patient transportation for tests.
  14. Assist in electronic communication, scheduling tests, and faxes.
  15. Order supplies and manage stock levels.
  16. Communicate with food services regarding patient diets.
  17. Operate and troubleshoot clerical equipment, schedule maintenance as needed.
  18. Transport non-controlled medications and blood products as necessary.
