Job Responsibilities
- Responsible and accountable for performing a wide range of clerical duties and direct patient care activities, depending on the need of the unit. Tasks must be performed efficiently and timely to support quality care. Meets qualifications to care for patients in the assigned clinical area's specific age range.
- Provides patient care within the nursing assistant scope of practice, following the multidisciplinary care plan for each patient.
- Identifies, observes, and documents patients' physical needs according to standards; reports any changes in patient condition promptly to licensed personnel.
- Obtains and maintains specimen integrity according to policy and physician orders.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene and linen changes, and fulfills delegated responsibilities for ongoing care.
- Provides one-to-one patient safety watch as assigned, following established policies.
- Processes specimens accurately and transports them promptly to the laboratory.
- Performs point-of-care testing, maintains point-of-care instruments, and ensures quality control.
- Assists in troubleshooting equipment and supplies, taking corrective actions as needed.
- Serves as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students positively.
- Performs clerical duties related to admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths, facilitating patient throughput and processing orders accordingly.
- Releases and confirms test orders with relevant departments.
- Coordinates patient transportation for tests.
- Participates in electronic communication related to the nursing unit, including scheduling tests and faxing consults.
- Assists in ordering supplies, including stationery, floor stock, and nursing supplies.
- Communicates with food services to ensure appropriate diets.
- Operates and troubleshoots clerical equipment, scheduling maintenance as needed.
- Manages access to non-controlled medication storage and transports medications as necessary.
- Assists in transporting blood products to and from Blood Bank.
