Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Nursing Assistant (NA) for the Intensive Care Unit at Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, NJ. You will assist with Vital signs, mobility, and personal care, while supporting RNs and contributing to patient safety and comfort.

Required: High School Diploma or GED and AHA BLS certification; CNA experience preferred. Full-time night schedule (11:00pm–7:00am) with occasional weekends/ holidays. Our team prioritizes compassionate, high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; CNA preferred.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Previous nursing assistant experience or clinical nursing program experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with activities of daily living and basic nursing care including vital signs and bedside tasks.
• Monitor patient status and document accurately in EHR per policy.
• Support nurses in care planning and patient safety initiatives.
• Maintain infection control and safety protocols on the unit.
• Communicate clearly with patients, families and care team.
• Assist with emergency response using BLS as needed.

You'll assist with daily needs such as vital signs, mobility, and personal care, while helping RNs monitor conditions and carry out care plans. As a Nursing Assistant (NA), a typical day may include:

• Assisting patients with activities of daily living and providing nursing care to patients including taking vital signs, EKGS, performing phlebotomy, assisting with bedside care, i.e. bathing, mouth care, skin care.
• Monitor vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature to track patient health status
• Document patient information accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems while maintaining strict confidentiality
• Implement infection control protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff, adhering to facility policies
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers to coordinate care plans and address concerns
• Support emergency response efforts by applying Basic Life Support (BLS) skills such as CPR when needed in acute situations
• Providing patient care, based on physical, education, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients
• Providing for effective and safe patient outcomes through practice, judgment and critical actions
• Ongoing communication with patients and nursing colleagues regarding status of patient's care
• Participating in collaboration of our patient's plan of care from admission to discharge to ensure safe transitioning

To be considered for this NA opportunity, you must have a High School Diploma / GED and a current American Heart Association BLS certification. Previous nursing assistant experience or clinical experience from an accredited nursing program is preferred or a CNA certificate. This position offers a Full-Time Night schedule from 11:00pm to 7:00am and includes every other weekend as well as some holidays.
