Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Nursing Assistant (NA) for the PICU (Stepdown) Unit at Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, NJ. Per-Diem Day shift (7:00am–3:00pm) with every other weekend and some holidays.

You will support RNs, take vital signs, assist with daily living activities, and document in EHRs while upholding infection control and patient safety. The role requires a High School Diploma or GED and a current BLS certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; CNA or NA certification preferred.
• BLS certification from American Heart Association required or in process.
• Experience as Nursing Assistant or clinical exposure during nursing program preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with activities of daily living and provide nursing care including vitals and basic assessments.
• Monitor vital signs and track patient health status.
• Document patient information in electronic health records.
• Follow infection control protocols to maintain a safe environment.
• Communicate with patients, families, and care team to coordinate plans.
• Support with BLS skills in emergencies when needed.
• Provide age-appropriate patient care and contribute to care plans from admission to discharge.

As a Nursing Assistant (NA), a typical day may include:

• Assisting patients with activities of daily living and providing nursing care to patients including taking vital signs, EKGS, performing phlebotomy, assisting with bedside care, i.e. bathing, mouth care, skin care.
• Monitor vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature to track patient health status
• Document patient information accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems while maintaining strict confidentiality
• Implement infection control protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff, adhering to facility policies
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers to coordinate care plans and address concerns
• Support emergency response efforts by applying Basic Life Support (BLS) skills such as CPR when needed in acute situations
• Providing patient care, based on physical, education, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients
• Providing for effective and safe patient outcomes through practice, judgment and critical actions
• Ongoing communication with patients and nursing colleagues regarding status of patient's care
• Participating in collaboration of our patient's plan of care from admission to discharge to ensure safe transitioning

To be considered for this NA opportunity, you must have a High School Diploma / GED and a current American Heart Association BLS certification. Previous nursing assistant experience or clinical experience from an accredited nursing program is preferred or a CNA certificate. This position offers a Per-Diem Day schedule from 7:00am to 3:00pm and includes every other weekend as well as some holidays.
