Job summary

Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, PA, is seeking a Nurse Technician (NT) for the Palliative Care/Med Surg unit. You will support nursing staff with daily patient care, monitor patients, and help maintain a safe, compassionate environment for patients and families.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of Nurse Aide Program; on-the-job training possible.
  • BLS certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • 1 year of acute or long-term care experience preferred.
  • English communication (read/write/speak) and ability to complete Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the Patient Care Team's delivery of personalized, efficient care with respect for patients' spiritual and cultural differences.
  • Considers safety, effectiveness, and cost in the delivery of patient care.
  • Orients patients and families to the room and call bell.
  • Upon admission, obtains initial vital signs, height, and weight.
  • Records daily intake and output (I&O), vital signs, and food intake in the electronic medical record.
  • Transports patients using appropriate methods in a safe and dignified manner while adhering to patient activity restrictions.
  • Establishes positive relationships with patients and families and reports concerns accurately and concisely to appropriate care team members.

Join our Palliative Care/Medical-Surgical (Med Surg) Unit, where you will work alongside a compassionate and dedicated healthcare team focused on delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. As a Nurse Technician, you will play an essential role in supporting nursing staff, assisting with daily patient care needs, and helping maintain a safe, comfortable, and supportive environment for patients and their families.

Our unit provides care to adult and geriatric patients with a variety of acute and chronic medical conditions, including individuals requiring symptom management, post-surgical recovery, and supportive or palliative care. Team members have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in medical-surgical nursing while developing an understanding of pain management, patient comfort, dignity, and the physical and emotional needs of patients facing serious illnesses.

Working collaboratively with registered nurses and other members of the interdisciplinary care team, Nurse Technicians assist with activities of daily living, monitor and document patient information, support individualized care plans, and contribute to maintaining patient safety and overall well-being.

What we're looking for

Applicants should possess a High School Diploma or GED. Additional requirements include:

  • Completion of a Nurse Aide Program, experience in a related field, or willingness to complete provided on-the-job education and training.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to acquire within 3 months of hire.
  • One year of acute care or one year of long-term care experience preferred.
  • Certification preferred.
  • "multiple software systems; effective English communication (read/write/speak); ability to complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.
