Corewell Health is seeking a Nursing Technician for the Intensive Care Unit Medical 8 MHC Butterworth - Grand Rapids. This part-time night-shift role supports nurses with ventilated and complex patients in a fast-paced MICU environment.

Orientation lasts 8–12 weeks with preceptor-led training; responsibilities include vitals, patient care tasks, and documentation. Join a collaborative team at the Meijer Heart Center facility in Grand Rapids.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days.
• 1 year of patient care experience is strongly preferred.
• Flexibility with availability is required.

About The Unit

The Medical ICU is a 24 bed unit on 8 Meijer Heart Center within Butterworth Hospital. The unit takes care of critically ill patients, and specializes in the care of a variety of medically complex patients, including those that are diabetic, Ketoacidosis patients, mechanically vented patients, critically ill bone marrow transplant patients, sepsis and pneumonia patients as well as many others.

The growth of West Michigan has resulted in the increased need for hospitals beds and specifically intensive care beds.

The 8th floor of the Meijer Heart Center once housed Ambulatory offices and conference rooms. This space is completely renovated to become the new MICU. Accepting a position with the MCC offers a unique experience of moving to a brand new critical care unit.

Scope of work

Our Nursing Technicians support nurses and other ancillary staff in providing competent care of patients requiring ventilator support, life-sustaining titratable medications including cardiac and sedation medications, and assist with bedside procedures including preparation of the sterile field for tracheostomies, central line placement, and dressing changes. The ICU is a fast-paced unit that relies on teamwork and an interdisciplinary approach with not only provider teams, but ancillary staff in order to deliver excellent and effective care.

Responsibilities include checking blood sugars, vitals, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.

In addition, a Nurse Tech is sometimes floated to other departments of higher need with similar training.

Orientation

Orientation for ICU Nurse Techs takes 8-12 weeks and begins with required classes from 8am-4:30pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Training with a preceptor begins during week 2, and is typically 7am-7:30pm shifts to follow the schedule of the preceptor for several weeks. Must be available for weekday orientation shifts in September, October and November.
