Corewell Health's Cardiothoracic ICU in Grand Rapids is seeking a dedicated Nurse Technician to support critical care teams caring for post‑operative and transplant patients. You will assist with complex ICU procedures, monitor vitals, document care, and contribute to individualized patient plans under RN supervision.
Orientation includes 8am‑4:30pm classes, followed by hands‑on weeks with a preceptor, shift rotations, and potential fall orientation.
About the unit: The Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) is a 36-bed ICU located in the Meijer Heart Center specializing in highly acute post-cardiac and advanced heart failure patients. Nurse techs are able to care for a wide range of patients and devices including heart/lung transplant patients, post-operative open-heart patients, and more. We are experts in caring for the most critically ill patients in our area and throughout Michigan. We are at the forefront of cardiac medicine, engaging in cutting‑edge innovation and research. Top preferred skills we seek in our Nurse Techs include experience in roles that require constant use of critical thinking skills, resilience, a very high level of self‑motivation and drive, flexibility with availability, commitment to excellence, receptive to constructive feedback.
ICU Orientation weeks will require flexibility to train during weekdays for several weeks, before phasing into regular night shifts. Nurse Technicians act as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).
These include required 8am-4:30pm Nurse Tech Classes Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday during week 1 of employment, followed by Adult Critical Care Class which will depend on the start date and takes place during week 3 of orientation, typically on a Friday. Aside from classroom trainings, the ICU orientation also includes up to 11 weeks of training with a preceptor 7am-7:30pm on weekdays & rotational weekends. Please note that this will require availability for continued weekday orientation shifts in the fall, if starting this summer.
