Overview

Works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator. The Registered Nurse (RN) assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and supervises individual patient care according to unit policies and procedures, including the PCU level patient. Provides supervision of non-RN personnel on the assigned unit. When assuming the charge role, delegates and supervises unit activities. May be required to work on other nursing units according to distribution of staff and patients. Performs other duties as assigned or requested to maintain a high level of service.

Responsibilities
  • Assess patients' physical and psychosocial condition continuously throughout care.
  • Develop, communicate, and document individualized care plans involving patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Implement and coordinate care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Evaluate care effectiveness, patient responses, and discharge readiness; revise plans and make referrals as needed.
  • Assess learning needs and provide education to patients and families, documenting outcomes.
  • Serve as a preceptor to new staff.
  • Act as a charge nurse when required.
  • Ensure a safe environment for self and patients.
  • Meet performance expectations in Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Staff and Self Development.
  • Perform other duties to ensure department/unit operation.
  • Unit-specific: Demonstrate lung assessment skills and instruct patients in breathing exercises.
Qualifications
Education

Graduate of an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred. Proficient in electronic health records and internet searches for patient care literature.

Licensure

Valid Connecticut RN license.

Special Skills

BLS certification required; ACLS within 6 months.
