Job summary

Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital is seeking a Nurse Resident for the Acute Care med/surg unit in St. Petersburg, FL.

The program supports nurses with under one year of experience through structured training, preceptorship, and monthly classes to transition into independent practice. The role emphasizes bedside care, collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, patient advocacy, and adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Nursing school graduate.
• Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida or valid Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) multistate RN license.
• Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
• ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC are required for certain areas. NRP is required for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Responsibilities

• Administers bedside patient care in a hospital or inpatient/observation setting under the supervision of a preceptor, leader, or charge nurse.
• Assesses patients’ needs and develops individualized plans of care based on their needs and responses.
• Respects diversity by building respectful relationships with all team members and customers.
• Functions as an advocate for patients and their families.
• Demonstrates nursing skills and the use of care equipment per unit requirements.
• Prioritizes patient care per Evidence-Based Practice Standards of Care.
• Communicates patient condition or unit concerns to the health care team.
• Maintains a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
• Participates in nurse residency program and staff development activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
